Faze Electrical conducts electrical safety audits across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich and the northern Gold Coast. Audits cover RCD testing, safety switch installation, insulation resistance testing, earth-fault-loop impedance, polarity checks, and full visual inspection of switchboards including thermal imaging where appropriate. QBCC Electrical Contractor Licence 90552.

A safety audit is the single most cost-effective electrical job you can book. A 2-3 hour inspection that catches an undersized cable or a failing RCD before it starts a fire pays for itself many times over.

    Call 07 4428 2766 or text 0489 275 747 to book a safety audit.

What is checked in a residential electrical safety audit

A standard 2-3 hour residential audit includes:

    • RCD test on every circuit – push-button and full trip-time test under AS/NZS 3760. We test that the RCD trips within 300 ms at the rated tripping current.
    • Insulation resistance test – every circuit measured to confirm cable insulation has not degraded.
    • Earth-fault-loop impedance – we measure the actual fault current path. Out-of-spec readings indicate a poor earth or undersized conductor.
    • Polarity and continuity – checks that active, neutral and earth are correctly connected at every outlet.
    • Visual inspection of switchboard – terminal tightness, breaker condition, signs of heat damage, surge protection presence.
    • Smoke alarm check – we verify presence, type, age, and interconnection to Queensland’s 2027 compliance requirements.
    • Outlet inspection – GPOs visually checked for cracked face plates, scorched terminals, loose mounting.

You receive a written report listing the test results, anything not compliant, and a fixed-price quote to rectify if needed.

RCD testing requirements – what the standard says

    The Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 3760 requires:

    • Push button test every 6 months (homeowner can do this)
    • Operating time test every 12-24 months by a licensed electrician

For commercial premises, commercial RCD testing is required at least annually and is part of your WHS obligations. We provide certificates with each commercial RCD test.

    Safety switch installation

If your home has a switchboard without RCDs on every circuit, you are not compliant with the current Australian Wiring Rules. Adding RCDs is a one-day job for a single-phase house. Cost depends on board layout but typically $385 per added RCD, or $1,850-$2,500 for a full board replacement that brings everything to current standard.

Most older Brisbane homes have RCDs on power circuits only and not on lighting. Current standard requires RCDs on lighting too. A retrofit RCD on lighting is from $385.

    Switchboard thermal imaging

Thermal imaging finds hot spots in switchboards before they cause failure. Hot terminals indicate loose connections, undersized cable, or aging breakers – all common causes of electrical fires.

We use a 384×288 IR thermal camera (well above the entry-level 80×60 cameras used by some inspectors). Reports include the thermal image, the rated temperature differential, and recommendations.

    Recommended frequency:

    • Commercial sites: annually (often required for insurance)
    • Homes: every 3-5 years on older boards
    • Industrial sites: every 6 months for sites with continuous heavy load

Cost from $185 for a residential board, $245 for commercial single-board, scales with board count.

    Smoke alarm compliance audit

Queensland legislation requires interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways outside bedrooms, on every storey – regardless of build date – by 1 January 2027. As part of a safety audit we check what you have, what is needed, and quote any smoke alarm upgrades.

    Three options for compliance:

    1. Hardwired interconnected with battery backup – most reliable, our recommended choice for owner-occupiers.
    2. 10-year sealed RF-interconnected – no wiring needed, pricier batteries but easier retrofit.
    3. Hybrid – hardwired where existing wiring exists, RF in additional bedrooms.
    4. Pricing for safety audits

      • Residential safety audit (single phase, up to 6 circuits): from $295
      • Residential safety audit (3-phase or 8+ circuits): from $395
      • Commercial RCD test (single board): from $185
      • Commercial RCD test (multi-board, 5+): from $385
      • Switchboard thermal imaging (residential): from $185
      • Switchboard thermal imaging (commercial): from $245
      • Smoke alarm compliance audit + report: from $145
      • Add an RCD to existing board: from $385
      • Replace breaker with RCBO: from $245 per pole

All quotes are fixed price, no callout fee. Request a safety audit quote or call 07 4428 2766.
