A Daikin outdoor unit beside a brick home, an indoor unit being serviced and two outdoor units on a wall

A home aircon regas in Brisbane costs $709.50 including GST for a 2 to 3.5 kW split system and $854.50 for a 5 to 8 kW system with Faze Electrical & Airconditioning. Both prices are for a regas after a leak check. A split system is sealed, so it doesn’t use gas up. If yours is low, it has a leak, and we find that leak before any gas goes in.

The quick answer

  • A regas after a leak check is $709.50 for a 2 to 3.5 kW split system and $854.50 for 5 to 8 kW, both including GST.
  • Low gas means a leak. Gas added to a system that still leaks will leak out again.
  • A blocked filter or a dirty coil causes the same weak cooling. A service and clean is $341 including GST, so rule that out first.
  • Only a licensed technician can handle refrigerant. Our ARCtick licence is L181564.

How much does an aircon regas cost in Brisbane?

A split system regas after a leak check costs $709.50 or $854.50 including GST, depending on the size of the system. The size is the cooling capacity in kilowatts, and it’s printed on the label of the outdoor unit.

Faze split system prices, including GST, checked 4 October 2026
Job System size Price including GST
Regas after leak check 2 to 3.5 kW $709.50
Regas after leak check 5 to 8 kW $854.50
Service and clean, one unit Any split system $341
New split system, supplied and installed 2.5 kW from $1,814.51

A system between those sizes, or larger than 8 kW, is quoted on request. We confirm a fixed price in writing before any work starts. The same aircon regas prices apply to air conditioning repairs in Logan.

It’s low on gas because it leaked

The refrigerant moves around a closed loop of pipe between the indoor and outdoor units. The system doesn’t burn it or use it up. So a split system that is low on gas has lost it through a leak.

The Australian Government lists faulty or poorly maintained equipment as a source of refrigerant leaks. That’s why a regas starts with a leak check.

Our view: if someone quotes you for gas with no leak check, don’t book it. The gas will leak out again.

Signs a split system needs a regas, and what else they could be

The most common sign is air that isn’t as cold as it used to be. Each sign below can point to low refrigerant, and each one can also have another cause.

Sign What you notice
Weak cooling The system runs but the room takes much longer to cool.
Ice Ice forms on the indoor coil or on the pipes at the outdoor unit.
Long run times The outdoor unit runs for much longer than it used to.
Hissing or bubbling A new noise comes from the pipes or the indoor unit.
Oily marks An oily residue appears on the pipe joints at the outdoor unit.

Seeing ice? Turn the system off and let a technician find the cause.

Check these cheaper causes first

A blocked filter or a dirty coil causes the same weak cooling as low gas, and a service and clean fixes both. That job costs $341 including GST for one unit, which is less than half the price of a regas.

A service and clean covers the filters and the coil of the indoor unit, the two cheaper causes of weak cooling.

Checking the simple causes first can save you the cost of a regas. Our guide to an air conditioner that is not cooling lists the checks you can do yourself, and our air conditioning service Brisbane page shows what a service covers.

Why you can’t regas it yourself

Only a licensed technician can handle refrigerant. The Australian Government states that it is an offence for anyone else to handle fluorocarbon refrigerants, and that it is illegal to release regulated refrigerants into the air.

The source is the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water page on refrigeration and air conditioning for consumers. A licensed technician carries an ARCtick licence. You can check any licence on the ARC licence check.

Should you regas or replace an old split system?

Compare the two prices for your size of system before you decide. A regas on a 2 to 3.5 kW system costs $709.50 including GST. A new 2.5 kW split system costs from $1,814.51 including GST, supplied and installed.

Three questions help with the decision.

  1. How old is the system, and has it needed other repairs?
  2. Where is the leak, and what does the repair involve?
  3. Is the system still the right size for the room?

We give you both prices in writing, so you can compare them. New system prices by size are on our air conditioning prices page.

What to ask before you book an air conditioner regas

Ask what the price covers and how the leak will be found.

Four questions to ask any technician

  • Is a leak check part of the price?
  • What happens when the leak check finds a part that needs a repair?
  • What is the licence number of the technician?
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include GST?

Our listed prices are for a regas after a leak check, and they include GST. A leak that needs a part replaced is a separate job, and we quote it before we do it. Our air conditioning repairs Brisbane page sets out how we check for a leak before a regas.

Common questions about regassing a split system

How often does a split system need a regas?

A split system with no leak doesn’t need a regas. There is no regas interval, because the refrigerant is sealed inside the system.

Do these prices apply to ducted systems?

No. The prices in this guide are for split systems. For ducted systems, our service page covers the ducted service and coil clean.

Is the quote free?

Yes. The written quote is free, and the quoted price is the invoiced price.

Our advice

If the filters haven’t been cleaned in a while, start with a service and clean. It’s $341 including GST, and it fixes a blocked filter or a dirty coil, which cause the same weak cooling as low gas. If the system still isn’t cold after that, book the leak check.
