Not cooling? Clean and leak check before anyone mentions gas

The phrase you will hear from some operators is that the unit just needs a regas. A split system is a sealed refrigerant circuit, so if it is low on gas, the gas leaked out, and it will leak out again after a refill. We check the coil first, because in Brisbane humidity a coil and barrel fan caked in mould will gut a unit’s cooling capacity while the refrigerant circuit is perfectly healthy. A deep clean is far cheaper than chasing phantom leaks. When the refrigerant genuinely is low, we do a leak check and then regas at $709.50 for 2 to 3.5 kW units or $854.50 for 5 to 8 kW units, including GST.

Repair or replace: our honest rule

Once a split system passes about 6 or 7 years, a major failure usually makes replacement the better spend. A compressor, indoor coil or control board can cost a large share of a new unit once parts and labour are counted, and the new unit arrives with a 5 year manufacturer warranty, our 5 year workmanship warranty and better efficiency than anything made a decade ago. Minor faults, drains, sensors, capacitors and fan motors on younger units, are usually well worth fixing.

What a repair costs

We do not publish a flat repair price list, because a jammed drain and a failed control board are different jobs, and a number invented to look cheap on a website has a way of growing on the invoice. What we publish are the fixed figures that do not change: a service and deep clean is $341 including GST, and a regas after leak check is $709.50 or $854.50 depending on unit size. Everything else is diagnosed on site and quoted in writing before the repair starts, so the decision is always yours.

We do not install or repair ducted air conditioning. Why the electrical licence matters in a repair

A good share of air conditioner faults are electrical: a breaker that trips when the compressor starts, a cooked isolator, a damaged circuit, a loose neutral heating up a connection. A refrigeration only technician has to stop at the isolator and call an electrician. We hold QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 90552 alongside the ARCtick licence, so the wiring, the circuit and the switchboard side are fixed in the same visit by the same team, and if a unit is tripping power to half the house our 24 hour emergency electricians can attend out of hours.

Why is my air conditioner not cooling?

Why is my air conditioner leaking water inside?

Almost always a blocked condensate drain. Mould and dust build up in the drain line, condensation backs up in the tray and drips down the wall. A service clears and flushes the drain and cleans out the growth that caused the blockage.
