We quote every rewire after an inspection, so there’s no list price. This guide covers what the quote should list and how the work is staged in a lived in home, so you can check a quote line by line before you say yes.

What should a rewiring quote list?
A line that just says “rewire house” leaves too much open. Two electricians could price that line very differently and both be right about the job they had in mind.
Check your quote for these items
- Full or partial rewire, and which rooms or circuits are included.
- How many power points, switches and lights are replaced, and how many are new.
- Any switchboard work, and whether it’s a full replacement.
- How the cable will be run: roof space, underfloor, or opening walls.
- What isn’t included, such as plaster patching or painting.
- Testing, the certificate of testing and compliance, and the warranty.

How a rewire is staged
Most rewires are done in stages so the house stays usable for as much of the job as possible. The order looks like this.
- Inspect and quoteWe check the wiring and switchboard, then send a fixed price in writing.
- Plan the outagesWe agree with you when the power will be off, and for which parts of the house.
- Run the new cableNew cable goes in circuit by circuit, through the roof space, underfloor and wall cavities.
- Switchboard workWhere the quote includes it, the board is replaced or altered for the new circuits.
- Fit offPower points, switches and lights are connected to the new cable.
- Test and hand overEvery circuit is tested and labelled, and you get the paperwork.

Expect the power off while we’re in the roof
Queensland’s electrical safety laws require workers to turn the power off at the switchboard before working in or entering the roof space of a home. The Electrical Safety Office sets this out on its roof spaces page.
On a rewire that means planned outages. The Electrical Safety Office suggests a few ways to get ready.
- Know where your switchboard is.
- Charge phones and laptops before the work starts.
- Agree a time for the roof work that suits your work and family.
What you get at handover
Before we leave, every new circuit is tested. You get a certificate of testing and compliance for the work, and a 12 month workmanship warranty on it.

Is the quote free?
Yes. We inspect the house and send you a fixed price in writing at no charge.
Can I add power points while the cable is being replaced?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Tell us where you want them before we quote, so each one is on the list. Our page on power point installation Brisbane shows the published starting prices for single points.
Should I settle renovation plans before getting the quote?
Yes. The quote lists each point and circuit, so it’s only as good as the plan behind it. Moving a point after the walls are closed is harder than marking it on the plan first.
Our advice
Don’t accept a rewiring quote that’s only a total. Ask for the list above in writing, and make sure it says what’s excluded and what happens if something unexpected turns up behind a wall.
